This is the home for the new Modern Western Square Dance club, Noho Squares.
NoHo Squares started dancing January 10th, 2006, on Tuesdays from 7pm - 9pm in the Life Center next to the Sacred Heart Church at 101 King Street in Northampton, MA. We now dance on Sundays from 6:30 - 8:30, starting September 23rd, 2007.
A new class will be starting up again in the fall on September 23rd, 2007
Club Details:
We are a gender role free club - all are welcome! No partner necessary
and no special attire required, though you might want to wear comfortable
shoes. The club dances up thru plus level and
will be starting a class on September 23rd.
Caller:
Our club caller is
Ken Ritucci
Classes:
As this is a no-walk thru activity, will have a class to teach all
the moves. Class will start on September 23rd, 2007 and run through
sometime in December (running about 15 weeks). This is subject to change based
some on how the class is going.
To give some insight, most clubs teach plus level over maybe 40 weeks, which is
really hard to commit to.
Tech Squares
teaches plus in 14 weeks and we thought we'd try modeling our club after theirs,
in that regard.
Each class builds on the figures taught the previous week, with plenty of
opportunity to dance the calls you know and have fun with square dancing
to a live caller. After completeing the class you will be able to
dance at any plus level dance across the country, and even around the world!
Do you need to know how to dance to do this? No! We will teach you
everything to know in order to do this - if you can walk and listen
at the same time, you can square dance.
If you can't make it in the first few weeks, write to to see if there's something that can be worked out.
Yes, but what is Modern Western Square Dancing?
Modern Western Square Dancing is a fast moving form of square dancing.
We all learn the moves together in a weekly, fun-filled class, then
dance the moves in whatever order the caller tells us to. Every
dance is different and you never know what's coming up. It's exercise
for the brain as well as the muscles!
